Breaking the law at wild side west

So there I am discussing the merits of some organization and its inane initiration rite that consists of vowing to follow the law for 2 weeks/ months with my lesbian, burning man, out and out rebel of a friend and I can't believe my ears.
All I can say to her is that she is great, I love her style, and breaking the law is how she's been living her life for the last 30 something years, and she shouldn't stop now.
It errupts into an uncomfortable moment when her friend and co-cult member chimes in in support of this ridiculous vow, so that she "can feel what its like to have limits". God, Im so glad I know what I want in life. There's no way I'm going to let anybody, let alone the current establishment, george bush, jesus, some cult, et al, deign how I should live my life. We all construct our own moral code and belief system. the virtous live up to their beliefs.
I can't drive fifty five, I believe in women rights, gay marriage, gun control, abortion, the sanctity of a pink hat, and think that you should too have your own moral code.
Halleluyah, and amen.
And sorry to all my friends if this rant somehow pissed on your belief system. Let's hash it out over a drink at wild side west. The first round is on me.

bourbon and branch

Met up with cline and avery to check out bourbon and branch. the theme was nice, the decor pleasant, and the drinks were interesting, but we didn't find the clientele all too invigorating.
Instead we caught up on each other's lives, trials, tribulations, and achievements. Different than what we were looking for, but satisfying none the less.

.

We eventually reverted to nopa for a burger and tequila with Tish and LL.

LLL has left the building

Well, all good things must come to pass, and so with much fanfare and ado we close the month known as LLL's birthday out with a bang. Cancun, Tulum, SFx2, it was an exhausting 4 weeks of friends and excess. Not to be out done by us mere mortals, LLL is following up her west coast show with a world tour of epic proportions. New Years in Rio, summer in BA, Namibia, Cairo, Istanbul, India, Indonesia, Thailand and places in between. You can follow the exploits of  La Recessionista on her very own posterous blog.

Experiencing Lisa's personality brings to mind something a wise man once told me, "when life gives you lemons you paint that shit gold.". So, let us all raise a glass to Lisa and her upcoming exploits. And if you happen to be be in one of these locales please do look her up, she's a stellar object not to be missed.

here are some pics from the the other weekend.

Little Minsky's at Club Deluxe with Spyder and LisaLisa.
Scott the blue bunny (6'4" in lucite heels) stole the show, and permanently imprinted his image into our subconscious. Remind me to take my meds.
Darkest act was a toss up between the midget marilyn manson and the girl who danced to Nancy Sinatra's Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)

I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight

Bang bang
He shot me down, bang bang
I hit the ground , bang bang
That awful sound, bang bang
My baby shot me down

Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up, I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
Remember when we used to play

Bang bang
I shot you down, bang bang
You hit the ground , bang bang
That awful sound, bang bang
I used to shoot you down

Music played and people sang…
Just for me the church bells rang…

Now he's gone I don't know why
And till this day some times I cry
He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't take the time to lie

Bang bang
He shot me down, bang bang
I hit the ground , bang bang
That awful sound, bang bang
My baby shot me down.

dia de los muertos

Lisa Lisa kicked off the day of the dead festivities with a little cocktail and face painting party at her house in the mission.
I arrived late only to find out that I was early, as in first one to the party. That's what I get for reading my iPhone while driving. No matter, the other guests soon arrived and everyone proceeded to get their ghoul on.
Sufficiently in the spirit of things, we sauntered down to 24th to participate in the festivities.
Took pictures of the crowd, lots of Kahlos and ghouls, oh my. There was something magical in the air. Lots of unexpected surprises, and eye opening coincidences. Laughing ghouls, and a very happy crowd made for a great evening.
Bowen and I ended up at El Farolito on mission for tacos at midnight. Marc joined us and it was a party. Just like old times.

technical notes:
The time change quite appropriately wrecked havoc with my image timestamps, forcing my camera to re-live the hours between midnight and 1 am.
Need to get better at posing subjects, candids only go so far.
Looking forward to the 5D mark II.  The auto focus on my 5D is less than satisfactory in low light conditions.
Also, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm tired of shooting at such a low aperture, or maybe its the 50mm. I love the look, but need a little more variety in my images. Maybe its time to try a 24mm.
