save the waves film festival
Spent Friday night shooting the Save the Waves Film Festival benefit. Josh and his cohorts organized a really nice event. The sell out crowd was in a great mood, with smiles all around. Lots of familiar faces, I was happy to help. Become a friend -> http://www.facebook.com/savethewavescoalition and visit http://www.savethewaves.org/
getting tubed. the plastic wave was a crowd favorite.
"All points South" was well put together. "The Devil's Teeth" was a nice break from the norm. Interesting use of b roll and voice over from the protagonist. "Lost prophets" was well shot and produced. Containing all the necessary elements of modern surf porn. Well lit waves, interesting locations, coool characters, nice use of focus and depth of field, good soundtrack, old school voice over. But surf porn all the same. Lewis demanded more surfing! Talked to Nathan after the event. He shot the film over a year, making surgical strikes to locations between paying gigs. Edited on Final Cut Pro!
The raffle was hilarious, the girl who won the surfboard was so excited. The headliner, "The Cove", was well told and not as gruesome as I had thought it would be. I would have liked to hear more from Paul Watson and the sea shepherds. Ramming boats and general piracy in the name of the animals sounds so much more exciting.
