World Championships of Kitesurfing Course Racing

quite a mouthful.
I drove up to the city to meet Bowen at Crissy field for the kitesurfing "worlds", which is a big deal from a kitesurfing perspective. Stefaans was racing and Boriana was catching kites and assisting contestants. The weather on the bay was awesome and the wind didn't disappoint either.
The start was crazy with the fleet split into two packs and approaching the start from different angles, trying to gain the advantage, and risking collision to do so. As expected, bay knowledge was critical from start to finish with many of the local entries grabbing the top spots by day 4.

14th annual holiday cocktail party

Marc and Jessica played host to this years cocktail party. Its almost embarrassing saying you've been to 14 of anything. This thing used to be a noon to midnight affair, but our livers have collectively yelled uncle. Now its a more civil event of Hors d'œuvres and well dressed women.
I hung out back cooking pork chops, getting smoke in my eyes, and learning all about the personalities I've been drinking with for all these years. I found out why they call Lisa "Motorcycle Lisa". Turns out Google knows more about her than I did. Try searching "motorcycle lisa san francisco".

This is my second year with this pork chop recipe and I feel I've perfected it. Its really just the same set of herbs that I've been working with for the last year, but the fire brings them to life.

4 pounds of thin cut bone-in porkchops (1/2 inch).
Throw the pork in a bowl with lots of salt, pepper, olive oil and a little vinegar.
Add a generous handful of chopped cilantro, and 4 chopped serrano peppers.
Mix well, cover, and let sit in the fridge until dinner time.
Cook over medium-high coals a couple minutes per side. Just until the meat is no longer pink. I wait for the blood to seep to the top.

Limantour is cold and beautiful

The kids and I ventured up to Limantour to watch Boewen and Thorsen kite.
Walked the beach to drakes, distances can be so deceiving, our leisurely walk turned into a full 5 mile expedition with biting cold winds out of the north creating exceptionally clear and crisp conditions.
It was nice to get some exercise.

Yield wine bar on 3rd

Bowen related the story of how mark met pietra. Pietra was a rocker chick from Sweden, and mark had a blue oyster cult tattoo on his chest. When they first met mark commented "she gets me". Love at first sight. Now they have two kids and live in sf.
Had dinner with the folks on 9th and then hooked up with t and b at yield. Vasco took his architectural exam this morning, the first step back west.

Lisa Lisa kicked off the day of the dead festivities with a little cocktail and face painting party at her house in the mission.
I arrived late only to find out that I was early, as in first one to the party. That's what I get for reading my iPhone while driving. No matter, the other guests soon arrived and everyone proceeded to get their ghoul on.
Sufficiently in the spirit of things, we sauntered down to 24th to participate in the festivities.
Took pictures of the crowd, lots of Kahlos and ghouls, oh my. There was something magical in the air. Lots of unexpected surprises, and eye opening coincidences. Laughing ghouls, and a very happy crowd made for a great evening.
Bowen and I ended up at El Farolito on mission for tacos at midnight. Marc joined us and it was a party. Just like old times.

technical notes:
The time change quite appropriately wrecked havoc with my image timestamps, forcing my camera to re-live the hours between midnight and 1 am.
Need to get better at posing subjects, candids only go so far.
Looking forward to the 5D mark II.  The auto focus on my 5D is less than satisfactory in low light conditions.
Also, I never thought I'd say this, but I'm tired of shooting at such a low aperture, or maybe its the 50mm. I love the look, but need a little more variety in my images. Maybe its time to try a 24mm.

Met up with T and B for dinner at Z. everything was great except for the lovely desert, which ended up being a little too sweet for our manly stomachs.
Played pool at the hemlock until the appointed hour at which time we switched venues to the Space Gallery for some Pale Horse.
I was promised punk rock and instead I got a poetry reading and folk songs. The songs were good, nice melodies. no punk rock.
Tricia is officially addicted to her iphone, facebook app and all.

slow news day.

The kids and I drove the twisty road past Pt Reyes Station to the Tomales Bay Oyster Company for Marc and Jessica's b-day party.
All the usual suspects were in attendance.
Adrian wore his mask for effect. He's trying to decide if he should be a robot or a welder for halloween.
Enzo met Enzo and tried to act cool.
Bowen again attempted to outdo the rest of the team with his rendition of pulpo dwelle. I love the texture of the octopus suckers. The oysters were good too.
Nice location, lots of space for both the kids and adults to roam in. Shot mostly with the 24-105mm.
When the fog advanced we retreated to a cottage up the way. Switched to my 50mm 1.4 and shot low light images.
All in all a beautiful afternoon and evening with the undercurrent of children permeating the party.
